Threads App: The Ultimate Guide for Content Creators to Master Instagram’s Latest Text-Based Platform. Discover tips, insights, and strategies to maximize your presence on Threads and engage with your audience like never before.
Just three months ago, Meta announced it would be creating Threads, an app to compete with Twitter. Originally, it was set to launch on July 6th, but users were surprised to find it launched on July 5th instead.
Threads’ growth has already been huge, with over 20 million users in less than 24 hours. The buzz is quickly spreading, making it clear why content creators and small businesses are looking for ways to leverage this new social media app.
So let’s talk about what we know so far and how you can start using Threads in your business.
WHAT IS THREADS?
Threads is a new app from Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram. The platform is mostly text-based like Twitter, though users can post photos, videos, and links.
Threads has a 500-character limit. You can also repost and quote things that others post. Additionally, you have the ability to easily share things from Threads to your Instagram feed or Stories.
HOW DO YOU SIGN UP FOR THREADS?
Unlike many other recent social media apps that required an invite to join, such as Shuffles by Pinterest and Bluesky, Threads is open to everyone. They have also made it really easy for current Instagram users to start accounts.
All you have to do is download the app, which is currently available in 100 countries on Apple’s iOS and Android. If you have an Instagram account, you can use it to sign up, keeping your username and password.
You can also import your bio, profile photo, and profile link, which makes the setup very simple. Of course, you can edit all of these things to make your profile unique for Threads.
A great feature for content creators is the ability to import the list of accounts you already follow on Instagram to Threads. This will make it easier for your Instagram followers to find and follow you on Threads, facilitating faster growth compared to starting from scratch.
One concern to keep in mind is that once you use your Instagram account to sign up for Threads, deleting your Threads account will also delete your Instagram account. However, you can deactivate your Threads account while keeping your Instagram account active. Their data is tied together so you just can’t delete all of the data for one and not the other.
HOW TO USE THREADS AS A CONTENT CREATOR
It’s important to remember that Threads is brand-new. The app isn’t even 24 hours old as of the time I’m writing this. While some influencers claim to know how to have massive growth on the app, the truth is that no one has enough data yet to know what works and what doesn’t. Even casual users are still discovering how to use the app effectively.
During my time using Threads and setting up 5 accounts for my different blogs, I’ve paid attention to what people are posting, liking, and what they seem to engage with the most. Here’s what I’ve learned so far:
-
- Most people do not want Threads to become a video app. Many users have expressed their preference for not seeing Reels or TikToks on the app. While there are some videos being shared, they are not a major part of the content.
- Photos are okay but should be used sparingly. When sharing intros, most users tend to share a selfie. There are also many dog and cat photos, but overall, there aren’t as many staged or highly curated photos compared to other apps. Authenticity is valued.
- Users appreciate authenticity. Threads provides an environment where users can show their true selves rather than their Instagram persona. It has a similar feel to early Twitter.
- Memes and GIFs are acceptable. While text-only posts are predominant, users also enjoy sharing memes and GIFs on Threads.
- No ads, for now. Currently, Threads does not have ads, and users appreciate the lack of sponsored posts. However, it’s expected that ads will be introduced in the future.
Overall the vibe on Threads is fun and drama-free. Users are not yet interested in serious or overly promotional content. As a content creator, it’s important to adapt to the app’s atmosphere and focus on building genuine connections with your audience.
HOW TO SHARE YOUR CONTENT ON THREADS
It’s still uncertain how much traffic can be generated from links on Threads. Historically, Twitter, a competitor of Threads, has been more focused on connection rather than driving significant traffic.
Recommendations on sharing content will evolve as the app develops. Be sure to bookmark this post or follow me on Threads by clicking on the number badge in my Instagram profile for updates. You can also join the free Bloggers’ Coffee Hour Facebook group to stay informed about Threads news.
For now, I suggest reading the room. Observe your own feed and the content that people you follow are sharing. Are they open to seeing links or more interested in helpful content without explicit promotion?
My current plan is to share my content sparingly when it aligns with the context of Threads. I aim to maintain a slow and thoughtful approach, not exceeding more than one link per day unless it’s highly relevant. I will also share helpful content without links, contributing to the platform’s connection-oriented environment.
Threads was designed for connection, and that’s what draws people to the app. Embrace its purpose, and avoid pushing it solely as a traffic or sales platform.
Now, go ahead and create your Threads account, and immerse yourself in the world of this exciting app. I can’t wait to see you there, and be prepared because I’ll be my unmasked self, bringing you an authentic experience.
